The context

When the fire starts to fade

Like many large organisations, Reckitt is full of ambitious high-performers trying to make an impact. But even for the most driven people, the fire that fuels an early career can start to fade. Motivation dips, and the grass elsewhere starts to look greener.

According to Gallup, only around one in ten employees are actively engaged at work. That means most teams are carrying lower productivity, poorer retention and a weaker connection to their work.

How motivated we feel is rarely about where we work. The real problem is usually a disconnect from purpose, and often from each other. When what we do has real meaning, we go above and beyond. When we feel connected to each other too, that effect multiplies.

What we did

Finding the why

Over three years, Chloe has run tailored Why Discovery sessions for individuals and teams across Reckitt, helping them uncover what drives them at their core: what Simon Sinek calls their “why”.

The sessions give managers and teams the tools and support to:

  • find their personal why, the deeper purpose behind what they do
  • uncover a shared team purpose that brings people together
  • reconnect with their work, and with each other.

The result

What changed

  • Better engagement and a stronger sense of belonging.
  • Stronger team dynamics built on trust and shared goals.
  • Renewed motivation and energy.
  • Better retention, as people felt connected to their work and their team.
  • Teams inspired to try new things and make a difference.

Where it started

The first guinea pigs

It started because brave people like Steve trusted Chloe enough to be guinea pigs. She found her own why there, and her team’s too. It was such a profound experience that she went on to build a business helping more people find theirs, without needing to leave the security of the nine-to-five.

Since then, close to a hundred managers across Reckitt have been through the process.
